Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between genital self-image (GSI) and quality of sexual life (QoSL) among pregnant women, according to gestational trimesters. Methods: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted between April 1, 2024, and April 1, 2025, in the Obstetrics and Gynecology outpatient clinics of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital. The sample consisted of 282 pregnant women: 92 in the first trimester, 93 in the second, and 97 in the third. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS), and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female (SQoL-F) scale. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were used. Results: While no statistically significant difference was found in GSI scores across trimesters (p = .054), a significant difference was observed in SQoL-F scores (p = .012), with higher scores in the third trimester. According to regression analysis, significant predictors of sexual quality of life included higher education (B = 5.18), planned pregnancy (B = 5.42), and GSI scores (B = 1.30). The strongest predictor of genital self-image was the SQoL-F score (B = 0.07; β = .31, p < .001), while other variables such as trimester, BMI, and work status were not statistically significant. Conclusion: A positive association was found between genital self-image and sexual quality of life in pregnancy. Sexual quality of life emerged as the strongest predictor of genital self-image. These findings emphasize the importance of holistic prenatal care strategies that address both physical and psychosocial dimensions, especially promoting body image and sexual well-being among pregnant women.
