Effect of non diabetic hyperglycemia on contrast induced nephropathy

Özet (EN)

Purpose: Contrast-induced nephropathy has become a significant source of hospitalmorbidity and mortality with the ever-increase use of iodinated contrast media indiagnostic imaging and interventional procedures such as angiography andcomputed tomography in high-risk patients. The aim of this study is the effect ofacute hyperglysemia level on iodinated contrast agent nephrotoxicity.Materials and methods: Fourty adult New Zeland rabbits weighting between 1,5-2,5kg. were divided in four groups. The first group was control group, the second groupwas hyperglysemic (2,5ml/kg %20 Dextrose was administrated) group, the thirdgroup was contrast group (2mgI/kg diatrizoat sodium 370mgI/ml) and the fourthgroup was contrast with hyperglysemic group. In all groups we have consideredbazal, first, second and fifth days of serum creatinine levels. The elevation of serumcreatinine level by >0.5mg/dl or >25% with in five days of radiocontrast mediainjection is defined as radiocontrast nephropathy.Findings: There weren?t significant diference on serum creatinine level between thegroups is defined as nephropathy. (p<0.001)Results: There wasn?t a significant effect of acute hyperglysemia level on iodinatedcontrast media nephrotoxicity. But low rate of contrast induced nephrotoxicity mayreduce the effect of hyperglisemia.
