Psychological resilience as a predictor factor in the quality of life of Syrian high school students under temporary protection

The aim of this study was to investigate resilience predictive effect on quality of life in Syrian high school students who are under temporary protection in Turkey. The data was obtained from 324 Syrian high school students attending 9, 10, 11 and 12th grades between the ages of 13-20 on a yoluntary basis. The data collection tools of the study were the Quality of Life Scale for Adolescents (Kiddo-KINDL) and the Child and Youth Psychological Resilience Scale (CYRM-12). Pearson Product Moments (Correlation Coefficient) and simple linear regression were performed for data analysis. According to the findings, there is a low level of positive correlation between quality of life and psychological resilience scores (r = .22, p < .01). In addition to this, psychological resilience accounted for 5% (R2 = .05) of the variance in quality of life scores. There is low level of positive correlation between the quality of family life subscale and psychological resilience score (r = .24, p < .01). Psychological resilience score accounted for 6% (R2 = .06) of the variance in family life quality score. There is low level of positive correlation between the quality of friend life subscale and psychological resilience score (r = .26, p < .01). Psychological resilience accounted for 7% (R2 = .07) of the variance in friend quality of life score. There is low level of positive correlation between the quality of school life subscale and psychological resilience score (r = .15, p < .01). It was concluded that psychological resilience accounted for 2% (R2 = .02) of the variance in quality of life school subscale score. A significant relationship was not found between the scores of physical well-being, emotional well-being and self-esteem subscales of the quality of life and psychological resilience scores.
