From traditional to informatics: Current principles of sustainable library design

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to re-evaluate the architectural designs of the university library buildings, to determine the current principles and to create an architectural design guide for the new buildings. These assessments were made under three main headings: (1) sustainable architecture, (2) computer and communication technologies, (3) user. The problem of the thesis; whether the library buildings will preserve the existence of the renewed learning space designs by taking into consideration changing student profile, developing informatics resources and diversified learning methods. In this context, the thesis is limited to university libraries. The architectural structure of the traditional and contemporary university library buildings were examined and tabulated. Spatial, technological and sustainable transformations of library architectural designs have been revealed. As a result of the research, it was revealed that these buildings are sustainable and a model guide for new designs are presented.
