Wealth tax proposals in the fight on income and wealth inequality: An assessment from the point of view of Turkey

Inequalities have been evident since the day man came into existence. Every development throughout history is considered a source of inequality for societies that cannot keep up with this development. While the concept of inequality is based on the inequality of access to opportunities and the distribution of social outcomes in a society, income and wealth distribution inequality deals with how economic variables are distributed among individuals or countries. The wide spread inequality in income and wealth distribution around the world has raised the question of which taxes should be used more actively for redistribution and has triggered discussions on this subject. The study's starting point is the role of wealth taxes in preventing income and wealth distribution inequality. Another important issue examined in the study is how successful the current wealth taxes applied in the world are in preventing income and wealth inequality. In this context, the aim of the study is to -propose a new wealth tax in order to combat inequality in income and wealth distribution-.
