Comparison of the logistics sector of emerging countries in terms of global competitiveness

Abstract (EN)

Today, countries cannot produce all of the products and services they need by their facilities. The desire of the countries to fulfill their needs leads them to transportation to different countries. On the other hand, such countries provide production are in the desire to deliver their products and services to other markets. This situation, which leads to the removal of borders between countries, globalizes trade. Within this scope, causes a competitive environment where countries compete fiercely over different sectors. In such a competitive environment, countries that deliver their products to different points at the fastest and lowest cost can achieve competitive advantage. For this reason, the logistics sector stands out as the most important global competitiveness tool of the countries. In this context, a comparison of the global competitiveness of countries through the logistics sector comes up as an inevitable issue. The purpose of this research is to determine the global competitiveness of developing countries through their logistics sectors. 24 emerging countries including Turkey have included the research as a sample. These countries were determined as emerging countries by Morgan Stanley Capital International. To obtain data, within the scope of the 2009-2018 period, logistics and travel sector groups and sub-service areas of the relevant countries were examined. Also, export and import data of countries were analyzed which were obtained from the Trademap database of The International Trade Centre. The obtained data were measured by seven foreign trade indices. Based on the findings, developing countries were analyzed by comparison. As a result of the research, meanwhile Egypt was found to be the country with the highest global competitiveness, Turkey was located on the second row. On the other hand, Philippines has the lowest global competitiveness. The findings of the research were discussed theoretically and practically.
