Examining the paranormal beliefs of young people in terms of some variables: The example of Istanbul Aydın University

In this research, the definition and dimensions of paranormal beliefs and practices, which are expected to decrease in effectiveness as a result of modernization and secularization in today's world, will be discussed. Young people's tendencies towards paranormal beliefs were examined in terms of variables such as age, gender, educational status, family relations, social stratum, importance given to religion and anxiety. A literature review was conducted on the subject and the scanning model was used. In the first part of the research, theoretical and conceptual definitions about the definition and dimensions of paranormal belief, previous studies on paranormal belief and the sociological functions of paranormal belief in the postmodern period are included. In our second chapter, the methods and techniques of the research, data collection tools and analysis are discussed. In the third part of our research, the findings obtained in terms of the relationship between the paranormal belief tendencies of Istanbul Aydın University Psychology Department students and the variables of age, gender, financial situation, religiosity and anxiety were examined and interpreted. Data on how young people's paranormal beliefs are correlated with various demographic characteristics, religious status and anxiety levels were obtained through a survey administered to university students selected as a population and sample. This study aims to understand the position of paranormal beliefs among young people in today's postmodern and secular world.
