The analysing of the self-effectiveness/competence levels of the leaders who working in the youth camps which affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sport

This study was conducted to determine the self-efficacy levels of camp leaders who served in the youth camps of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. While the population of this descriptive study is constituted by 1217 active leaders working in the youth camp leader, the sample is constituted by 400 active leaders. The personal information form and the questionnaire form which composed of self-efficiency/efficacy scale adapted into Turkish by Gözüm and Aksayan (1999) were used as data collection tools. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients of scale questions was found as 0.86 in this study. Pearson's chi-square, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were used in the analysis of the data. The significance level was considered as P<0.05. Of the youth camp leaders, 57.8% was older than 24 years old, 64.0% was male, and 47.3% was graduated from the state high-school. Of them, 85.3% had social security, 68.5% was living in nuclear family, and 53.8% had balanced income and expenses. Mothers of 52.8% and fathers of 42.5% of the camp leaders were graduated from primary school. Of the camp leaders, 75.3% was serving in the youth camp for 0-4 years. The mean onset behavior sub-scale score of the camp leaders was 31.17±6.9 (min. 8-max.40), the mean sustaining behavior sub-scale score was 27.1±5.2 (min. 11-max.35), the mean fulfillment behavior sub-scale score was 15.2±3.8 (min.4-max.20), the mean coping with difficulties sub-scale score was 9.8±2.5 (min.3-max.15), and the mean self-efficacy total score was 83.2±13.8 (min.53-max.108). It was determined that the self-efficacy levels of the camp leaders were above the average, and the age, marital status, educational level of their parents, family-income status, the time spent in serving in the youth camp and the status of participating in sports were found to be effective factors on the self-efficacy levels. As a conclusion, it can be recommended to develop activities and create programs to improve self-efficacy levels of the camp leaders. Keywords: Self-efficacy, youth camp, camp leader
