Relationship between the general self-efficacy and conflict management style: A research on private sector workers

Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted to investigate the relationship between general self-efficacy beliefs and conflict management styles. Conflicts can have constructive or destructive consequences for organizations and the need to manage and a better understanding of conflict is a necessity for organizations. Therefore, the relationship between the demographic characteristics of the employees, general self-efficacy beliefs and conflict management styles were examined. In this research, the participants of the study were private company employees. Private sector employees working in Ankara, Istanbul and Zonguldak provinces are selected as sample of the study and the data collection method is the questionnaire. Jerusalem and Schwarzer's "General Self Efficacy Scale" and Rahim's Organizational Conflict Inventory 2 has been used in the questionnaire. 240 questionnaires were evaluated, and the relational screening model was used in the study. It was examined whether the conflict management styles and general self-efficacy beliefs of the participants differed significantly according to their demographic characteristics. Spearman rho, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for these analysis. Whether there is a significant relationship between general self-efficacy belief and conflict management styles were analyzed by Spearman's rho and Chi-Square analysis. According to the analysis results, a statistically significant relationship was found between participant's general self-efficacy and three conflict management styles which are integration, dominating and compromising. When the relationships of demographic characteristics are examined; it was found that some characteristics of the research participants such as gender, seniority, duration in the business life and age have significant relationships with general self-efficacy and conflict management styles.
