Abstract (EN)
The alienation which was defined for centuries by a lot of thinkers differently, is used at the present time to explain the situation of the people who do not accommodate to the environment in which they live. Although it is refered to the person who is in the process of the transition to the modern life while explaining the alienation, it is felt this emotion intensely during wars and social events that is affect the whole society. In this study, we will analyse the two novels, one of which was written shortly after the 2nd World War and the other was written during Lebanese Civil War, with regard to the phenomenon of alienation. In both novels which were written in different countries and under the different social condition, people feel alienation from themselves and from others because of the continuing wars, repression of the forces which govern the country and the events which take place out of their controls. In the first chapter of our study which consists of four chapter, we gave information about alienation, its relation to the modernism and then we presented the examples in litereture. In the second and the third chapter, we made a study of the writers, who are the subject of our thesis, and their works. Finally, in the fourth chapter we compared the novels 1984 and Kevâbîsu Beyrut (Beirut Nightmares) with regard to the phenomenon of alienation.
