Abstract (EN)
Surrealism, which gained popularity all around the world, especially with the transition from the classical art understanding to the modern one , had an impact in Turkey,too. With the proclamation of the Republic the process of social change affected the art like all the other fields, a trend of westernization was observed in the art of painting. Turkish artists who have been affected by the movements in Western arts; Çallı?s Generation, Müstakiller and Group D, as they were art groups, painting under the influence of Cubism and Impressionism which dealed with some social issues and they basically consist of the process of Westernisation in Turkish Art. Especially in the meantime of abstractionist tendency experienced after 1950, the artists who were inspired by the understanding of Surrealism in 1960 and after, and their works had drawn attention. While some artists were affected by social changes, the others were carrying the traces of technological changes in the process of industrialization. Artists can be classified as; geometrical abstractionist is Refik EPİKMAN, lyrical abstractionists are Zeki Faik İZER, Abidin ELDEROĞLU, Ömer ULUÇ, Mustafa AYAZ, Kayıhan KESKİNOK, geometrical non-figuratives are Cemal BİNGÖL, Şemsi AREL, Sabri BERKEL, İsmail ALTINOK lyrical non-figuratives are Nejat Melih DEVRİM, Adnan TURANİ, Selim TURAN, Bedri Rahmi EYÜPOĞLU, Ferruh BAŞAĞA .In this study, the aim was to analyse the artists who are thought to be impressed by the Surrealism which has also effects on their works of art. The research has been patterned in scanning model and the artists who worked in this field and their works have been studied.As a result of this research, the artists like Yüksel ARSLAN, Utku VARLIK, Ömer ULUÇ, Erol AKYAVAŞ, Gürkan COŞKUN (Komet), Alaaddin AKSOY, Ergin İNAN, Balkan Naci İSLİMYELİ, Ekrem KAHRAMAN and their works of art have imaginative fantasy features, especially it has been seen that Yüksel ARSLAN displays a critical approach by using symbolic elements.Key Words: Surrealism, Turkish Art of Painting, Modern Art, Surrealism.
