The investigation of the prevalance and epdemiology of house dust mites in Giresun

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and species of house dust mites (HDM) in Giresun.Dust samples were collected from 15 homes, which were regularly visited between November 2016 and October 2017 and examined.Housedust samples were examined by lactic acid method and obtained mites were made into permanent preparation with Hoyer's medium. The identification of mites was made under a light microscope.A total of 2251 mites were detected in the study. Of these, 846 (37,6%) were obtained from house grounds, 757 (33,6%) from parental beds and 648 from child beds (28,8%). The distribution of mites is as follows: 81,7% D. pteronyssinus, 0,5% D. farinae, 0,4% E.maynei, 4,1% Dermatophagoides spp. 0,6% A. siro, 2,3% Glycyphagus domesticus, 4,5% C. arcuatus, 1,2% Cheyletus spp. Obtained Pyroglyphid species were 94,3% of D. pteronyssinus, 4,1% were Dermatophagoides spp. nymh, 0,4% E. maynei and 0,5% D. farinae respectively.Pyroglyphid species were detected in all houses (%100), D. pteronyssinus was found in 100% of the houses, D. farinae 5%, E. maynei 4%, G. domesticus 80%, A. siro 33% , C. arcuatus 86%, T. putrescentiae 80%, L. destructor 73%, Cheylletus spp. 67%. Pyroglyphid species constituted 86,74% of the mite population while food mites constituted 8,5%. As a result, house dust mites in Giresun were detected in all houses throughout the year and all dust samples were contamined with mites. Although it was detected more in the spring and summer months, only a moderate correlation could be detected with temperature (rs=0,650 ve p=0,022). As a result, it is thought that the climate characteristics of Giresun are suitable for the growth and proliferation of house dust mites and therefore may create a risk for sensitive people.
