Abstract (EN)
Objective:It is aimed to identify Candida isolates isolated from clinical samples at species level by conventional methods.In this way, it was aimed to compare the conventional methods and to determine the species distribution of the hospital to which the clinical samples belong. Materials and Methods: In this study, it used to total 184 yeast isolates isolated from clinical samples (67 blood and 117 urine isolates) which were sent between February 2017-December 2018 to the Microbiology Patient Services Laboratory from the wards of Giresun University A. Ilhan Ozdemir Training and Research Hospital. Identification of the isolates was performed by germ tube, chromatic agar (ChromID® Candida Agar) and corn meal-tween 80 agar tests. Results: When the results of conventional tests were evaluated together; of isolates 66 (35.9%) were as C. albicans, 58 (31.5%) were C. parapsilosis, 39 (21.1%) were C. tropicalis, 12 (6.5%) were C. glabrata, 6 (3.3%) C. krusei and 3 (1,6%) C. kefyr were identified.Although 6 (3.3%) of the isolates (4 urine, 2 blood culture isolates) were negative for germ tube test, it were evaluated as C. albicans for light blue colony color on chromatic agar and chlamidospor structure on corn agar-tween 80 agar.Blood culture isolates were identified according to the frequency of isolation(decreasing) as C. parapsilosis, C. albicans, C. tropicalis and C. glabrata; urine isolates were as C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. kefyr.The study isolates were isolated from blood and urine samples of general anesthesia and reanimation, surgery, surgery and trauma, internal medicine, neurology, coronary and palliative intensive care patients, decreasingrespectively. Candida isolation rate was found to increase with increasing patients age. Conclusion: Germ tube, chromatic agar and cornmeal-tween 80 agar tests are sufficient in species level identification of Candida isolates but partially labor intensive, time consuming and subjective.
