Investigation of anti-elastase activities of extracts in different solvents of some edible plants in the region of Giresun

Abstract (EN)

Elastase found in lungs, blood vessels, lymphs and skin is a group of serin protease which is capable of separating elastin, an important protein of connective tissue. Anti-elastase activity is effective in preventing the formation of various diseases of the skin.In this study, inhibitory effects of extracts of 15 kinds of edible plants growing in Giresun province in different solvents on elastase activity were investigated. For this purpose, inhibitory effects on elastase activity of these plants which were of extracts prepared with water, methyl alcohol and ethyl acetate were analysed by spectrophotometric measurements. As a result of analysis, it was determined that the plant extracts showed different inhibitory effects on elastase.As a result among 15 plants, it was determined that the most effective extracts in inhibition of elastase were Brassica oleracea (IC50 0,0002 ± 0,0001 µg/mL), Pimpinella anisum (IC50 0,0013 ± 0,0004 µg/mL), Rumec acetosella (IC50 0,0030 ± 0,003 µg/mL), Urtica diocia/urens (IC50 0,0034 ± 0,002 µg/mL) as the extracts dissolved in water; Polygonum lapathifolium (IC50 0,0003 ± 0,0002 µg/mL), Polygonum bistorta (IC50 0,0005 ± 0,0001 µg/mL), Brassica oleracea (IC50 0,0015± 0,002 µg/mL) and Aegopodium podagraria (IC50 0,0045 ± 0,0002 µg/mL) as the extracts dissolved in methyl alcohol and Aegopodium podagraria (IC50 0,0007 ± 0,0001 µg/mL), Trachystemon orientalis (IC50 0,0032 ± 0,001 µg/mL), Ornithogalum umbellatum (IC50 0,0042 ± 0,001 µg/mL) and Rumex acetosella (IC50 0,0055 ± 0,006 µg/mL) as the extracts dissolved in ethyl acetate.Among those, the most effective inhibitors were water extract of Brassica oleracea (IC50 0,0002 ± 0,0001 µg/mL); methyl alcohol extract of Polygonum lapathifolium (IC50 0,0003 ± 0,0002 µg/mL) and ethyl acetate extract of Aegopodium podagraria (IC50 0,0007 ± 0,0001 µg/mL).
