Research and design applications of ceramic women's clothes in the context of wearable art

In the 1960s, the concept of wearable art emerged in the field of fashion by developing aesthetic and artistic freedom of expression. The art object, designed as wearable, uses the body like a painting and contributes to the field of art and fashion from a different perspective by making the untouchable art touchable. In the concept of wearable art, it is possible to work together with all kinds of materials within the subject. Ceramic, one of these materials, is used in the field of wearable art because it can be given the desired shape thanks to its plastic structure and becomes more durable after firing. Although wearable ceramics started with the production of accessories at first, it was observed that it was also produced as clothes and shoes. Wearable ceramic clothing production is a very new field and it has been determined that few artists are working in our country in the said field. In this study, women's clothes have been investigated in the process from the first people to the present day. Information about wearable art within the concept of fashion and clothes made using ceramic materials are included. In this context, within the scope of the thesis, it is aimed to create a fashion for the use of women's clothes designed and produced as wearable ceramics, to establish a connection between the field of fashion and ceramic art and to make interdisciplinary studies. In the works produced based on the designs, it was tried to strengthen the expression by conceptualising the elements of ties and knots by using materials and techniques such as sewing, rope, knitting. In women's clothes produced as wearable ceramics, the fragility and weight of ceramics were tried to be brought together with the contrasts of the light and curved structure of the fabric. As a result of the design and ceramic applications, a solo exhibition titled "With the Mud of Her Hand..." was organised and ceramic women's clothes were exhibited with live and inanimate mannequins. It is thought that this study will provide a source for researchers who will work in a similar field in the future with the exhibition visuals.
