Resrospective evaluation of triage implementation by nurses to patients who presents to the emergency unit with chest pain

This study is performed to evaluate triage records which applied by nurses to patients presented to emergency service with chest pain.. The sample of this study which is descriptive type and performed as retrospective is formed from data obtained from records of patients who applied to Fatih University, Sema Research and Training Hospital's emergency service with chest pain between 01.05.2012 and 01.05.2013. Data collection tool which was prepared by researcher based on hospital's triage records and National Triage scale is used for data collection. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 21.0 statistical software package was used tfor evaluation of data. When we examine findings of research, there is difference between nurses' work unit and triage degree which they gave but it is determined that this difference is not statistically significant.(p=0,578>0,05). It is determined that there is significant negative relation between increasing pain scosre of patients' and decreasing of triage degree. (r=-0,355; p=0,001<0,05). Similarly, it is determined that there is statisticaly significant negative relation between length of stay in hospital and triage degree.(p=0,018<0,05) Consequently, it is determined that triage records which recorded by nurses in emergency service are adequate and when these records are compared with national standart records, that records are consistent. One of the major responsibilities of nurses to keep adequate and accurate records, which has become even more important in the emergency department, it is necessary for nurses to use standardized measurement tools in order to make accurate and reliable triage, for this purpose nursesmust have triage training and it is recommended to use records for training by examining retrospectively.
