Evaluation of dental anxiety level in patients in surgery of impacted third molars

Anxiety; It is a state of restlessness and anxiety that occurs in the subconscious against an uncertain danger. Dental anxiety, on the other hand, can result from difficulties involved in dental treatment procedures, rumors about the traumatic dentist experience in the family and social environment, or one's own bad experience and can be defined as state anxiety. The teeth that are most likely to be impacted in the mouth are the third molars. Because impacted third molar surgery is an operation that is mostly performed with local anesthesia, it creates a high level of anxiety in patients. Especially nowadays, it has become very easy to access information. In today's conditions, instead of reliable sources, people refer to sources that are easier to access, but whose source is not clear and which contain unproven subjective information. Undoubtedly, social media is the most used of these ways today. The aim of our study is to determine the effect of the information about the impacted tooth extraction that the patients who applied to the clinic with the complaint of impacted teeth had obtained in the past when they applied to our clinic, and the effects of the sources of this information on the tooth extraction process of the patients. 60 patients who applied to our clinic with the complaint of impacted teeth were divided into 3 groups according to the sources of their knowledge about impacted tooth extraction at the time of admission to our clinic. Anxiety values of these patients at the first appointment were determined by stai-s, stai-t and mdas. Then, preoperative and postoperative anxiety values on the day of surgery were determined with the help of questionnaires. And the amount of pain of the patients in the postoperative period was determined by Vas. The patients were followed up on the 2nd and 7th days after the surgery. When the results of the study were evaluated, the preoperative mdas level was found to be statistically higher in patients who obtained information about the surgery through social media compared to other groups. These patients can be evaluated before the operation and anxiolytic procedures can be applied, so that they can easily get through the operation process.
