The effects of task based language teaching technic in English course on students' academic achievement and attitude towards the course

Teaching English as a foreign language is a topic getting more essential day by day due to increasing commonly use of English language all around the World. Because of that, language teaching researchers continue to carry out studies in order to find an answer to the question of how we can teach it better. Thanks to these studies, new approaches and methods appear. Similarly, the aim of this study is to analyze the effects of Task-based language teaching in English course on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards the course. The pre-test- post-test uneven with control group research model which one of the semi-experimental patterns was employed in the study. The study comprised 53 students who were at the prep. Classes in Erünal Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi during the 2016-2017 Academic year. They were selected through random clustering. Both quantitative and qualitative research paradigm were paradigm were applied in order to collect data. Data collection tools were academic achievement tests, attitude scale towards English course. The data were analyzed on SPSS 24 by using ANCOVA and t-test. The theme Predictions was selected for the study and for 8 weeks while courses designed according to TBLT were applied in the experimental group, the courses designed according to the course book activities were applied in the control group. The result of the research, it was revealed that TBLT in English has a positive influence on students' academic success and attitude towards English course.
