Visual storytelling in visual arts teacher education: A case study

Abstract (EN)
Visual storytelling is an artistic expression method that allows events, ideas or teachings to be conveyed to the audience more easily. The visual storytelling method is used in the field of education for it's attribution permanent learning by transferring narratives to visual memory. In this context this research has been conducted on the use of visual storytelling in visual arts teacher education and explains its effects on the personal and professional development of visual arts teacher candidates and their artistic practice experiences. This research embodies a qualitative research method, specifically an embedded single case study. Data were collected through observations, interview forms and evaluation forms, and analyzed using content analysis. According to findings, visual storytelling contributes to strengthening expression, increasing creativity, and developing cognitive skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving, and collaborative work also positively affects social development, and it has been seen that visual storytelling contributes the development of emotional skills like dedication and patience. Furthermore visual storytelling has been seen as a method that can be used in curriculum as it improves artistic practice experiences while trying different techniques, projecting the correlation of content with time and space in storytelling.
