Comparison of electrochemical oxidation capacities of graphite electrodes and Metal Oxide coated titanium electrodes for dye removal

Abstract (EN)

In this study, electrochemical treatment method which is effective in removing organic matter, color and many pollutant groups was applied for the removal of Reactive Orange 16 (RO16) dyestuff. With the addition of Na2SO4, NaNO3 and NaCl support electrolytes to the prepared model working solution, optimization studies have been realized for the current density, flow rate, pH, effect and amount of support electrolytes, initial dyestuff concentration parameters. Graphite electrodes and IrO2/RuO2 coated titanium mixmetal oxide electrodes with different configurations were used in the electrochemical treatment process. According to the results obtained, considering the type of electrolyte used for each electrode, 55% -100% color and 55% -100% TOC removal were reached. Toxicity tests were conducted to investigate toxic effects. Electrical energy consumption is also calculated to determine the most suitable electrode type for the removal of RO16.
