Analysis of tennis players based on a set of technicalvariables and tactical profiles for men's singles matches onclay and grass in grand slam tournaments

Tennis is one of the most watched, admired, followed and played sports in the world. Many competitions, including the ATP, WTA and Olympic tennis organisations, are held around the world, with the Grand Slam tournaments being the most significant. As each tennis tournament is played on a different surface, tennis players need to develop different playing styles, game plans and playing skills to adapt to these different surfaces. The present study aims to investigate some technical and tactical skill profiles of male tennis players playing on two different courts with variable parameters. This study was conducted in accordance with the competition rules. Singles tournament is discussed here to evaluate the technical and tactical abilities of tennis players under competitive conditions. During the tournament, the athletes' technical stroke data was retrieved from the tournament's official website and the strokes and points scored were recorded statistically. To accurately determine these strokes, the records on the official websites of the tournaments were used. The data obtained was analysed using the mean and standard deviation of the SPSS 20 programme. It was found that the data was normally distributed as the kurtosis and skewness values were in the range of 1.5 and the data had a normal distribution. The independent sample T-test was applied to compare the data from the Roland Garros and Wimbledon tournaments played on two different surfaces: Clay and grass. The significance level was set at 0.05. According to the study results, it was found that there were statistically significant differences in technical and tactical variables between two different surfaces It was concluded that the surface of the tennis court on which the competition is played influences the technical and tactical skills of the players and forces them to adjust their technical and tactical skills.
