Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is studied how to benefit from GSM technologies in aviation. First of all, solutions that can make possible to use cellular phone in an aircraft are explained than some existed solutions are given. To locate a position with GSM is told and by using one of these techniques an emergency landing procedure is developed. Measurements are done by ?TEMS Investigation? program and compared with GPS data on the map. In this procedure it is showed that with a mobile receiver (cellular phone) and GSM base stations together can be used as a navigation system. The results and simulation outputs are discussed. Recommended MS BTS system can be used as a VOR DME or ADF DME. Clearly the proposed solution can not be used instead of the other solutions in normal approach and landing procedures. However the new technique that is cheaper, simpler and can be benefited almost everywhere is suitable for future developments. When the legal issues are solved it is obvious that more benefited results can be taken on the aircraft because of the system can avoid the effects of reflection problems.
