Abstract (EN)

Vasfi was a poet who lived in the first half of the 19th century where classical Turkish literature lost it is power and was subject to change. In this thesis, the life and literary personality of Vasfi, whose record can not be found in the sources, is aimed to be enlightened through his poems. Vasfi, who we learned that lived during the reign of Mahmud II, wrote poetry for many people such as pasha, vizier, proprietor, guard, chief warder, construction official, hodja and tekke sheikh. It is among other information we have learned from his poems that he had been in many places in Rumelia and came to Istanbul. The fact that Vasfi, who had a rich Sufistic work, invited the readers of his poem to Rifai lodge, demonstrates that he adopted this sect. The only work of Vasfî that we have is Güft-i Vasfî that we are studying on. The only known copy of the work is in the Istanbul Sadberk Hanım Museum Library and registered with S.H.M.H.K Yaz.335 archive number. There are 210 poems in the work, which does not have a classical order. He used the pseudonym Vasfî in all of his poems. The shift in the structure and content that appear in the literature of the period was reflected in Vasfi's poems. With this study, poems in Güft-i Vasfî were transferred to Latin letters and examined in terms of structure and content, thus, a work belonging to Divan Literature has been brought out to the surface and the position of it is writer, Vasfi, in Turkish culture and literature has been tried to be designated.
