Determination of the production and quality characteristics of some safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) varieties in Gümüşhane (Kelkit) conditions

This study was carried out in the Kelkit district of Gümüşhane province in 2021 in order to investigate the yield, yield components and some quality characteristics of some safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars conditions of Gumushane. This study was designed as randomized block model with 3 replicatications and 5 different safflower varieties (Balcı, Dinçer, Göktürk, Hasankendi and Koç) were used as plant materials. In this study; the period of emergence (10.00-13.34 days), the first flowering time (66.67-69.67 days), physiological maturation (84.00-87.00 days), plant height (49.48-56.10 cm), first branch height (29.04-31.91 cm), branch number (5.77-6.73 number/plant), head number (6.86-8.53 number/plant), head diameter (2.04-2.23 cm), weight of head (2.13-2.46 g), number of seed in head (20.93-24.13 number), seed yield (93.52-128.06 kg da-1), 1000 seed weight (40.94-44.13 g), crude oil ratio (26.28-30.92%), crude oil yield (25.41-33.66 kg da-1) and crude protein ratio (13.97-15.43%) were evaluated. Coefficient of correlation between seed yield of safflower varieties and plant height (r=0.640**), branch number (r=0.759**), crude oil yield (r=0.875**), first branch height (r=0.517*), weight of head (r=0.533*), number of seed in head (r=0.520*), 1000 seed weight (r=0.582*) and crude protein ratio (r=0.525*) as analyzed characters are statistically significant and positive. On the other hand the first flowering time (r= -0.777**), physiological maturation (r= -0.694**) and crude oil ratio (r= -0.542*) as analyzed characters are significant and negative. In terms of seed yield, period of emergence (r= -0.298) and branch number (r= -0.231) are negative coralation but insignificant.
