Abstract (EN)

This thesis examines the subject of "Research-Based Architectural Practices", which is a type of architectural production quest that has been going on for centuries in the contemporary architectural environment. After the 1990s, interest in research-based design in the field of architecture has increased with developments such as the returns of technology, developments in design research, new production methods and increased investments in design-production studies. First part of the thesis, process-oriented architectural production section, is considered in terms of representation, tools/technology and actors. In the second part of the thesis, the relationship between research and architecture has been examined. This section attempts to make the relationship between research and architecture visible in the international arena that practices 'Research Based Architecture'. A categorization has been made between local architectural offices in Turkey and international architects who share similar research-based architectural production processes. In the third part of the thesis, architectural offices in Turkey, which have similar production processes with international architectures, are examined in the contexts specified. The projects of local architectural offices and the data obtained in the interview conducted within the scope of the thesis were evaluated together in the fourth chapter. The research-based architectural production processes of the offices were diagramatized and mapped. This thesis aims to contribute to the research-based architectural literature by making the research-based production processes of contemporary architectural practices visible.
