The evaluation of updated 5-year class social studies programme according to teachers. (Erzurum sample)

In this study it is aimed to investigate Social Studies teachers' Ideas about updated 5-year class Social Studies programme..The sampling group of this study consists of 62 female and 106 male totally 168 Social Studies teachers who work in three central town of Erzurum between 2017-2018 academic year. The model of this research is a mixed model using quantitative and qualitative research methods. SPSS 22.00 statistical package program was used to analyze the quantitative data. T test was used for variables of determination of gender and participation in an in-service course or seminar and Kruskal Wallis H test for variables of seniority and professional status. Qualitative research data were evaluated using content analysis method. According to the answers of the teachers, the general objectives, vision, content, learning and teaching processes, measurement and evaluation and application dimensions of 5th SBDÖP meet the expectations of the teachers. Meaningful difference considering gender, seniority, education status, in-service training course or seminar attendance factors amongst social studies teachers has not been observed. According to the answers given by the teachers to the interview form, in order to realize the aims of 5th SBDÖP; It is emphasized that the student should be a guide, cumulative, experienced and a model with his / her behaviors, create a positive education and training environment in the classroom and adopt the program. It is reported that students should volunteer to learn, to be interested in the lesson, to participate in direct activities and to transform their acceptance and abilities into behavior in social environment. They stated that the cooperation of the families with the teachers and their support at every stage of the education process will contribute to the achievement of the program. In addition that , school facilities and environment should be well-developed. Decreasing the number of acquisitions and combining some acquisitions will be useful. These acquisitions are simple, understandable and suitable for students . Acquisitions and content are covering each other , content is suitable for students but some subjects are more complex than students' level. Although various quantification consideration methods can be used, quantification and consideration exercises at the end of unit are suitable but not sufficient and because of that increasing the number of different activities is concluded. It is an applicable programme but in a crowded class whole acquisitions can not be applied to all students. Additionally; because of insufficient course hours, some activities can not be applied so increasing the course hours is decided.
