Abstract (EN)

There is an increasing need for solar power plants as a solution to green energy. Structural frames made of aluminium or steel profiles are commonly used to support solar panels. Although the fact that both materials are hundred percent recyclable makes both of them preferable in terms of clean energy, there are differences between the two materials from the standpoint of sustainability. Obviously, a comparative study must be carried out in order to make an accurate and environment friendly choice when investing structural systems used in solar energy industry, which is one of the cleanest energy types of today. In this thesis, frame structures that support solar panels are designed with aluminium and steel, using related design codes to compare the sustainable properties of the two materials.
