Abstract (EN)

Titled "Development of Art Museums in South Korea" the objective of this thesis is to understand the history, their current situation, the course of education and the philosophy of art museums. In this thesis the history of art museums are explored by centering the South Korea's main art museum, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. This thesis investigates the alterations in the social resume and the settlement procedures in art museums, which are influenced by the foundation of the South Korean National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Nowadays, many art museums in South Korea takes the role as a trainer, leaving the role of a museum focusing only on preserving and exhibiting collections. As a result, many educational programs occur and these programs are takes place with the participation of various visitors from children to adults. Within these programs the contents of art museums and the educational philosophy are examined. With context of this information the part of art museums in South Korea is to improve the philosophy while expanding the vision of the society. A method of collection, correction and a reference center was used in this research. With this method, the transition process of South Korean art museums according to their historical and social content and the flow in which they are connected with education were investigated
