Asia anew initiative in Turkish foreign policy and economic relatons in southeast Asia countries: Case of Indonesia

The "Asia Anew" Initiative represents a significant challenge to Turkish foreign policy, aiming to forge deeper partnerships and enhance engagement with Asian nations. This strategic pivot reflects Turkey's intent to expand its economic and geopolitical influence in Asia. The Initiative focuses on political, financial, and cultural cooperation and other aspects of partnership, particularly targeting Southeast Asian countries. Indonesia has been selected due to several factors, including historical ties dating back to the Ottoman Empire and its status as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world and a rapidly growing market. This study aims to explain Turkey's foreign policy agenda, which emphasises bilateral partnerships between Turkey and Indonesia while strengthening economic and regional diplomatic ties within ASEAN and positioning Indonesia as a strategic ally. A qualitative methodology is chosen in this research by focusing on a case study approach. This approach is employed to describe the economic relations between Turkey and Indonesia and to examine the opportunities for involvement in the Southeast Asian region. The findings of this study demonstrate Turkey's presence in Southeast Asia, specifically in Indonesia, concerning development, geopolitics, education and economic cooperation. The study concludes that the success of Turkish foreign policy in Indonesia depends on its ability to navigate and adapt to geopolitical challenges while establishing itself as a global actor and competing with other competitors.
