Maqâsıdî approach in the contemporary Quran research

Criticisms of classical interpretation methods have intensified in the method discussions that took place in the Qur'an researches with the effect of modernization. Among these criticisms, it is the main theme that classical tafsirs are literal and fragmentary distracting the reader from the aims of the Qur'an. In this context, today's interpreters of the Qur'an have tended to seek the maqâsıd of the Qur'an and to base aims on the interpretation of the Qur'an. The maqâsıdî approach to the Qur'an and the reasons for this orientation can only be understood and determined by considering the conditions of the modern period. For this reason, the study aims to analyze the reasons why commentators based on the Qur'an's maqasıd in today's Qur'an studies refer to the classical concept of maqâsıd in their own historical and social contexts with a higher emphasis compared to previous periods. What motivations did this approach take place? What position the maqâsıd was in the discourses of the commentators? In this respect, the study is important because of its contribution to illuminating the theoretical and practical framework and social context of the maqâsıdî approach that emerged in the modern period. The maqâsıdî approach, which emerged in the Qur'an studies in the modern period, aims to solve the interpretation crisis that has come to the fore with the effect of modernization by using the maqâsıd of the Qur'an.
