The case of change and change in today: A qualitative study on Konya and Bursa landscapes

The world on which social activities take place is changing and transforming day by day with the innovations made by individuals in the field of technology. Certain processes by which all societies are affected affect groups of individuals in each society, which are groups of individuals who engage in collective action. As a religious group in the Anatolian geography and affected by the change processes of the society it is in, the Mevlevi order is different from its historical context today. Examining these processes of change observed in Mevlevi order plays a major role in understanding the dynamics of the society in which it is located. Based on this reality, the aim of the study is to examine the present appearance of Mevlevi order from a sociological perspective. In order to reveal the reflections of the change on the Mevlevi order, meetings were held with the Mevlevi dervishes in Konya and Bursa provinces, and the Mevlevi views on the phenomenon of change were evaluated in the context of present-day and historical Mevlevi. Based on the responses received from the participants, it can be said that the phenomenon of change can be observed more clearly in the sema ritual and the ney instrument than in other areas. Among the dynamics of change, especially the processes of modernism and secularism can be counted.
