Syrian War example in the context of security and constructivism

The Arab Spring, started at early 2010's has enabled to reconstruct the balance of power in the region by changing the political structure and the sovereignty structure. In Syria, which is the center of conflicts in middle east, the ongoing civil war gives rise to both deep humanitarian tragedies and international crises. The intervention of the regional and international powers has caused to the proxy war. The perception of security and global terrorism crisis which has change in this context; has necessitated the reinterpretation of the concept of security. The war in Syria is multidimensional. This is a battlefield where local / regional, national and global powers intertwine their struggles. The Syrian civil war is also a war of facts that conflict with each other over sectarian, ethnic, identity and ideology. With the influence and guidance of the dominant powers, the proxy wars of regional actors powers has become a place in which they defy each others. There are many actor states that want to reach their political and economic interest and have a say in the control of the region. These actor states are supporting terrorist organizations in order to achieve their goals. As a result, a new war which is quite different from traditional ones has emerged and this new war needs to be reinterpreted. In this context, the study will analyze the proxy wars taking place in Syria in terms of security perceptions within the framework of social constructionist theory.
