Abstract (EN)
The most important income source of the Ottoman Empire as its contemporaries was the taxes gathered from the people. There wasn?t any settled system till the ?Tanzimat Firman? in the tax-system of the Empire. After the Tanzimat Firman, we see radical changes in the tax-system. By the changes, taxes gathered till that time had been removed and, based on equality principle, ?Temettuat? tax began to be gathered according to citizens? income. The records which the state registered these taxes on were called ?Temettuat Books?.Temettuat books which belong to the period A.D 1840-1845 and give notable information about socio-economic statue of the Ottoman Empire especially in 19th century exist in the Ottoman Archives of Prime Ministry. In these books, population of the settlement, taxable and tax-free land, grown-up products, stock-breeding and family?s income are recorded in detail, so by looking at these `Temettuat? books we could have important information about the population density, land, economic, commercial and agricultural condition of the region and the period. In this research, which is a master thesis study, temettuat books? transcription and evaluation of the villages (below) in Altuntaş District of Kütahya Sanjak has been done.ML.
