Reflection of Kazakhstan uprising on Turkish press in the context of news framing

Abstract (EN)
On January 3, 2022, there was some turmoil in Kazakhstan as the events went in a different direction after the people revolted due to the sudden sharp increase in gas prices due to high demand and price fixing at the beginning. Many people lost their lives and were injured in the incidents. The state used force to suppress this uprising. The main purpose of this study is how the news about the uprising published in Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet and Sabah newspapers in Turkey were handled and the aspects of the event were emphasized in this uprising; In the context of this event, it is to question what makes the news about the uprising stand out. The study was conducted with a quantitative approach. Content analysis was used as the analysis type. In this context, how the news in the Turkish press is framed in international events, how the frame analysis of the images, discourses and headlines used is interpreted. According to the findings obtained from the research data; It has been concluded that Hürriyet Newspaper gives more coverage to the uprising than Sabah and Cumhuriyet newspapers in terms of both visual usage and subject distribution. In this study, the Kazakhstan uprising was examined and it can be recommended to consider another research object in future studies. Future studies can be carried out in the form of a qualitative evaluation based on the opinions and comments on the news in order to measure the reactions to the news, and the reflections of the news frames on the public can be investigated.
