Abstract (EN)

Unfamiliar hadīth (munkar), a type of rejected ahādīth (matrūk), is a term about which many discussions have been made in the books of hadīth methodology. Whether there is a stable definition of unfamiliar hadīth as a result of these discussions is one of the fundamental questions to be answered in this study. In the first chapter of the thesis, following the literal and terminological meaning of unfamiliar hadīth, historical development of the term has been examined within the framework of previous (mutaqaddimūn), later (muta'ahhirūn) and modern hadīth scholars' opinions. In the next chapter, examples given under the heading of unfamiliar hadīth in the hadīth methodology books are analysed, and various subjects necessary to be addressed in order to present the matter with its all aspects such as the ways of determining the causes of unfamiliarity, status and parts of unfamiliar hadīth, its relation to other types of ahādīth and hadīth sciences, the terms related to unfamiliar hadīth are discussed. As a result, in the last chapter, results reached in the context of the historical development of the term of unfamiliar hadīth, definitions given for it in the process, and also various issues related to unfamiliar hadīth were summarized.
