Determination of waist-height ratio with risk of cardiovascular disease in obese and overweight individuals

This study was conducted between March and May 2018 to determine the relationship between waist-to-height ratio and the risk of cardiovascular disease in 275 people aged 18-64 who applied to Gaziantep Dr. Ersin Aslan Training and Research Hospital the diet outpatient. Survey forms were applied to the participants and demographic characteristics, nutritional habits, anthropometric measurements and biochemical blood findings of the participants were questioned. Parametric tests were used in the analysis of the data. Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated in independent sample t test, ROC curve and scale analysis of independent 2 groups. The average age of the individuals participating in the study was 42.95 ± 13.04 years. The daily everage energy of the individuals was 1473,23 ± 529,17 in males; was 1600,48 ± 537,35 kcal/day in female. In males, 48.77% of daily energy came from carbonhydrate, 34.31% from fat and 17% from protein, while in females 50.22% is from carbohydrate, 34.10% from fat, 15.66% protein. % 42 of the male participants had BMI, 53% of waist circumference, 76% of waist-to-hip ratio, %92 of waist-to-height ratio; and 82% of female participants had BMI, 86% of waist circumference, 66% of waist-to-hip ratio and 95% of waist-to-height ratio at risky group. When the biochemical blood parameters of individuals and cardiovascular disease risk factors are compared frequency of risks are;total cholesterol45%, LDL cholesterol 58%; HDL cholesterol 61%; triglyceride 71% in male, and 45% total cholesterol; 61% LDL cholesterol; 43% HDL cholesterol; 59% triglyceride in female. Blood parameters in male and femaleare above the limit values. When the waist-to-height ratio according to BMI is evaluated; the waist-to-height ratio in both genders was found to be higher in obese individuals than in overweight obese individuals. The mean total cholesterol and LDL values of overweight obese female are significantly higher than obese female but there was no statistically significant difference in males (p<0,05). When the success rate of the waist-to-height ratio predicted by risky blood lipids with ROC curves was evaluated, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were found to be predictable in female.
