Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to examine the professional competencies determined by the Presidency of Religious Affairs for the Quran course instructors, thus hafiz teachers, and to reveal in detail the evaluations of hafiz teachers about the competencies in question about themselves through the selected study group. Therefore, semi-structured interview technique was preferred among qualitative data collection methods in the study. Interviews were held with a total of 25 participants from 13 different districts of Istanbul. In the study, there are findings regarding the definitions of hafiz teachers about their profession, their reasons for choosing this profession, their professional satisfaction, their awareness of the competencies expected from them, their opinions on these competencies, their self-assessment on these qualifications, areas where they consider themselves competent/incompetent, their efforts for professional self-development, fields that they are interested in other hafiz, the problems that they faced during the period of education and the regulations that they think will increase the quality of hafiz education.
