Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the characters created in Haldun Taner's theatrical works within the framework of Carl Gustav Jung's typology theory. As one of the most significant representatives of Turkish theater, Taner brought an original and innovative perspective to the Turkish stage by blending modern and traditional elements in his works. The diversity in his characters demonstrates that Taner's works merit examination from multiple perspectives. The characters in Taner's plays exhibit traces of Jungian psychological functions, such as introversion-extraversion, thinking-feeling, and sensing-intuition, revealing the dynamics between individual and social structures. In the scope of this thesis, all of Haldun Taner's theatrical works have been examined, with the exception of his cabaret plays, where a lack of character depth precluded their inclusion, apart from Vatan Kurtaran Şaban. The characters in Taner's theatrical texts have been analyzed and evaluated in terms of their social and individual identities through the lens of Jung's theory of psychological types. This study aims to provide Turkish theater with a psychological perspective in terms of character depth, shedding light on how Jung's typology influenced Taner's character creation. The findings present a new approach to the application of Jung's typology theory in artistic and literary works, offering an opportunity to assess Taner's impact on Turkish theater within a psychological framework. Additionally, this research aims to reveal the potential for applying Jungian typology in the fields of literature and theater.
