Abstract (EN)

Human beings have felt a need for shelter since the day they came into existence on earth. Due to this need, they have sought a place to take shelter. Along with this, a house model emerged. With this model, the attention of the writers of the period also turned to these places. The houses, which attracted attention from the first moment they were formed, have developed over time. These developing houses were shaped according to the spirit of the period. It is seen that the changing places are also changing with the changing society. Like every society, works are written by taking places into consideration in Turkish novels. In Turkish literature, in the Tanzimat period, houses that show their presence in the novel along with social issues started to become the main subject of the novel in the Servet-i Fünûn period. Intellectuals who sought ways to reflect the spirit of the period found the solution in reflecting the moods of the characters. Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil, who gave examples of modern novels in Turkish literature, described the houses of the period in his works. While describing the houses, the author does not only tell the events that take place in the places, but also tells the moods of the characters living in them by combining them with the rooms. The places examined in the novels are addressed through the characters. We can also see the mood of the period from Halit Ziya's perspective in the works. The subject of setting has always been a remarkable subject in Turkish novels. However, in terms of describing the period well, the Servet-i Fünûn period has been a more remarkable period. Because there is a different understanding of culture that has joined the society. The wrongly Westernized types seen in the Tanzimat period continue in the Servet-i Fünûn period. The characters that continue (Wrongly Westernized types) are more Westernized than the previous period and they reflect this in their lives. In the study, it is explained how the characters who emerged with the misunderstanding of the period by the people Halit Ziya dealt with during the Servet-i Fünûn years lived in the houses. While examining the rooms in these works, the contents in Michelle Perrot's "History of Rooms", which was taken as a reference, were taken into consideration. The rooms in Halit Ziya's novels were examined according to this work.
