Abstract (EN)
Water, which is one of the most important working areas of environmental engineering, is an integral part of our lives. Water treatment is vital for humans, animals and other living things. Flame retardant additives are products which aim to make the ignition difficult and prevent the spread of flame. Halogenated flame retardant products have negative effects on the environment and living things. Tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate, or TCEP in short, is a kind of halogenated flame retardants. It is used in rigid foams in plastics, automobiles, furniture and building insulation. In environmental samples; TCEP flame retardant was determined in domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater, drinking water, surface water, groundwater, rainwater and even dust samples taken from households. TCEP is considered biodegradable. In the treatment of wastewater, TCEP degradation rate is low under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. For this reason, many municipalities do not work on this issue. In this study, which was prepared within the scope of the thesis for all these reasons; TCEP, a halogen-based flame retardant chemical, is treated with advanced oxidation methods. In this respect, the effect of the studies on chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) removal was investigated.
