Transcription and evaluation of Hamdi Mustafa's work titled Efrad-ı Şahaneye Mahsus İlmihal

The developments in the late Ottoman military organization also affected the written literature of religious sciences in this world. Many people, including military personnel, wrote books to meet the needs of the field. The ilmihals, which emerged in this direction and were a product of fiqh literature, were a subject area that saw many editions in the period. Hamdi Mustafa, himself a military personnel, saw the needs in the aforementioned field and published his book titled Efrad-ı Şahaneye Mahsus İlmihal in 1324. In this study, both the transcript of this work written by Hamdi Mustafa will be made and evaluations will be made by making comparisons with the works written for the military. Hamdi Mustafa [Mirgünlü] was known for his various books of ilmihal and fiqh. These works were generally used for religious education and training. He is considered to be one of the most important figures of Islamic education in the Ottoman and early Republican periods, and was known as a man with a military career. Therefore, he is known for his works on military education and practices. Hamdi Mustafa Mirgünlü is also known for his work titled "İlmihal Kitabı Mahsus İlmihal Mahsus for Efradı Şahaneye", which reflects the understanding of Islamic law of the period. Moreover, since he also had a military background, the layout and presentation of the book was prepared in accordance with the principles of military discipline and organization. Military catechism books are important resources that aim to increase the religious knowledge of military personnel, reinforce moral and ethical values, and organize daily worship.In addition, religious rules and teachings help military personnel to fulfill their duties in a correct and honest manner.Moreover, military service is a demanding, stressful and serious profession.In this regard, catechism books provide moral support and peace of mind to soldiers.Religious information and prayers are also a source of morale and motivation in difficult conditions. Order and discipline are also very important in the military.Catechism books help to fulfill religious worship in an orderly and disciplined manner, which in turn supports military discipline.Ensuring a common religious understanding and practice among soldiers from various religions and cultures promotes social cohesion.Catechism books strengthen unity by creating these common denominators.The use of catechism books in the military plays an important role in meeting the religious and spiritual needs of military personnel, as well as promoting general order and discipline in the military.
