Hamza-name (Volume 45-analysis and text)

The Hamzanâmes are among the prominent examples of Islamic folk tales. Initially emerging as products of oral tradition, they were later incorporated into written literature and have survived to the present day. It was written in the 14th century by a person known by the pen name Hamzavi, who is recognized as the brother of the poet Ahmedî. The stories predominantly focus on the heroism of Hz. Hamza and his companions. His courageous, just, and honest personality has played a significant role in earning him the respect and admiration of the Turkish people. As a result, Hamzanâmes, which largely revolve around Hz. Hamza, have been read with great interest across generations and have remained vibrant through their transmission over time. Fuat Köprülü stated in his work History of Turkish Literature (Türk Edebiyatı Tarihi) that the Hamzanâmes consist of 72 volumes. This thesis examines the 45th volume of the Hamzanâme, housed in the Manuscripts Collection of the National Library under the catalog number 06 Mil Yz A 4361/2. The study begins with general information about the Hamzanâmes. It then presents a detailed analysis and a comprehensive summary of the 45th volume. Finally, the text was transcribed and transferred from Ottoman Turkish to Modern Turkish. The aim of this study is to draw attention to the cultural and literary value of the Hamzanâmes, which have been cherished by the Turkish people and hold a significant place in Turkish literature, by transcribing and analyzing another volume into modern Turkish.
