The Divan of Handani (Examination-Critical text-Index)

The real name of Handanî who is one of the 16th century poets is Halil. The date of poet‟s death who was born in 946 (1539-40) is not known. As it is lknown that he was alive in 1001 (1592-93) witnessed the periods of Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II and Murat III. In the collections of biographies and literary histories, there is not any information about Handanî. The data about the poet have been obtained from his only known work of divan literature. There are four confirmed copies of Handanî Divanı and in this study all the copies are included in the textual criticism. In this text where specifically religious and sufistic topics were discussed, there are 49 odes, 15 mesnevis, 44 musammats, 105 lyrics, 58 verses and 44 tuyuğ (a type of poem including 4 lines in divan literture). In this study, Handanî Divanı has been analysed under three chapters. In the first chapter, the biography and literary career of the poet have been elaborated on; in the second chapter, the work has been analysed in terms of its text, form and content. As Handanî is considered to have been affected by the Hurufi movement, his work has been touched upon under this aspect. In the third chapter of the study, the critical text of divan has been constituted. Key Words: Handanî, Handanî Divanı, 16th century.
