Abstract (EN)

In the thesis titled Debates on the Superiority of the Hanafi Sect over Other Sects, the debates on sectarian superiority and preference are examined in the context of the epistles called al-Intisâr ve't-tercîh li'l-mezhebi's-sahîh and an-Nüketü'z-zarîfe fi tercîhi sect Ebî Hanîfe. There were arguments and debates among the members of the sect. With the institutionalization of the sects, these debates turned into debates of preference and superiority. Members of the sect have written various works to prove that their sect is superior to other sects. In these works, the authors have tried to explain that their sect is superior and preferable by using various issues and evidences. One of the treatises written in this field was written by Sıbt İbnu'l-Cevzi (d.654/1256) during the Ayyubids period, and by Ekmeleddin Bâberti (d.786/1384) during the Mamluks period. Both authors responded to the criticisms made about Abu Hanifah and his sect in their own time. They stated that Abu Hanifah and his sect should be superior and preferred over other imams and sects, especially Shafi'i sect. When these treatises were examined, discussions took place between Hanafis and Shafiis. At the same time, the fact that Ibn Abi'l-Izz, one of the Hanafi scholars who lived at the same time as Bâbertî, wrote a refutation of his work with his work called Ittibâ, shows that the discussions that took place were among the Hanafis themselves.
