Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is aimed to compress video signals, without compromising the quality, by using a lifting based hybrid encoder which uses motion compensation method. For this purpose, video frames are separated into temporal groups and some frames in each group are predicted from other frames using temporal lifting with motion compensation. Edge-adaptive lifting and block-matching methods with different levels are used for the prediction. Unpredicted frames and residues between predicted frames and their originals are quantized and encoded. PSNR measurements are used to measure the performance of the suggested encoding method. Experimental results reveal that higher compression ratios are obtained as block-matching level is increased, while PSNR values remain in reasonable ranges. 29 dB of PSNR value is obtained in a 37.04 : 1 compression ratio.
