Legal maxms and jurstc rules consttute an mportant dscplne n Islamc law, as they facltate the process of dervng rulngs by organzng smlar subsdary ssues under general prncples. Ths study ams to hghlght the scholarly contrbutons of al-Khatb al-Shrbn n the feld of legal maxms and jurstc rules as presented n hs work al-Iqnāʿ. The research s dvded nto three man sectons. The frst secton ntroduces al-Khatb al-Shrbn and hs book al-Iqnāʿ, and clarfes the dfferences between a legal maxm (qāʿdah fqhyyah), a jurstc rule (ḍābṭ fqhī), and a legal theory (naẓaryyah fqhyyah). The second secton analyzes eghteen legal maxms explctly formulated by the author across dfferent chapters of hs work, explorng ther wordng, meanng, and practcal applcatons. The thrd secton comples jurstc rules found n the sectons on acts of worshp, transactons, personal status, and crmnal law, outlnng ther features and dstngushng them from legal maxms. The study concludes that al-Khatb al-Shrbn demonstrated great care n presentng legal ssues along wth ther evdences and made a sgnfcant contrbuton to the feld by systematcally organzng subsdary rulngs through maxms and rules, thus adng sound understandng and consstent legal reasonng.
