Transition from traditional management approach to post-modernism in air traffic control services: An application on air traffic controllers

Qualitative and quantitative research techniques were utilized together in this study, whose main purpose is to examine the transition from traditional management approach to post-modern management approach in air traffic control services from the perspective of controllers and to improve management processes. In this context, the conceptual model of the research was formed by literature review within the framework of the theoretical background in the first three parts of the thesis, which encapsulates five chapters. In the first part of the thesis, information is presented about the development of the aviation sector after the regulation process and the content of the study. In the second part of the thesis; after giving information about the basic regulations in the aviation sector and international and national aviation authorities, the concept of air traffic management has been explained. In the third part of the thesis; the management approaches aimed at forming the theoretical background of the thesis, important developments that enabled the transition to the post-modern management process and the post-modernization of the aviation system were given. The sample of the study consists of 225 people working as "Air Traffic Controllers" with active licenses in our country. The data gathered through the survey and analyzed in SPSS 26 and AMOS 23 programs and the assembled findings were evaluated. Consequently; in the research, the perspectives of air traffic controllers on the post-modern management process are explained in relation to their demographic characteristics. The results obtained contribute to the improvement of human resources management processes in the transition to a post-modern management approach in the field of air traffic control. In addition, the measures that can be taken to maximize the post-modernization perception within the current management processes of the controllers have been determined. The acquired results constitute an original guideline for the post-modernization of existing management processes in the field of air traffic control. All the results obtained in the thesis create awareness for the transition to post-modern management understanding in the field of air traffic control; it is anticipated to contribute to the post-modern management model literature and future scientific studies on the subject.
