Abstract (EN)

Each human being determines the events, facts and objects and also states the aims of their lives different from the others because each person has unique subjective character since the search of meaning takes lifelong starting at the birth In this context, the answers have been sought for the questions as "What is the meaning and purpose of life?", "Is life blessing or troublesome?", "Who are the persons or what are the organizations to give meaning to life and explain it?" and so on. It is tested the hypothesis of "The meaning of live changes as a result of the social transformation in the intergenerations. Under the impact of the changing life conditions, this research, by being given meaning to life in the sample at Atilla Uras Anatolia Secondary School in Maltepe, a district in İstanbul, targets the comparative analysis of three generations; children (527 school children), middle-aged people (258 their parents) and the elderly (79 grandparents).Totally, 864 people were applied in the survey; the analysis was done considering the independents changes of their genres, classes of the students, educations, occupations, monthly incomes, residents. In the survey, the findings reveals that as the young generations have more individual point of views comparing to the old ones, the elderly people consider that social and religious values are more meaningful and they have the interest of social matters. Generations believe that life has a meaning, yet it must be found by people themselves. The most important social institution which interpret life is family and its near surroundings. It is followed by parents, education and culture of students; religion of grandparents. Economy, science and technology are the most meaningful matters for the young. To give meaning to life, parents and teachers are effective at taking shape social matters, virtuous treatments, religious and cultural values, challenging at difficulties while the young are influensive at the occurence of freedom, fame life, individualism, materialistic expectations, hopelessness and pessimism. For difficulties, family and religious values are the supporting mechanism; women are more cooperative than men at organizational support. The reason why not being able to reach the target of the life expectations are incomplete education and financial impossiblities. Not being seperated from parents and siblings are the most important expectations of the generations. Children and grandchildren are the reason to have for the guarantee of being elderly and religious grounds as well as they increase the joy of life of the old. While the parents aim to bring up their children helpful and virtuous for the society, the young wish to have them to amuse families and give them love. Thus, the transformation and changes at social life conditions, the old to the young, considering life is effective on aims and targets, the treatment styles towards difficulties and bothersome, relationships with other people and the future expectations. In this context, it was stated that while findings verify the hypothesis, the young have the structure of being more individual and indecisive as they interpret life and stating their life targets comparing to the old. That is why, this situation requires the necessity of the social works.
