Azerbaijan during the Khazar Khaganate period

Although historians who lived in the period close to the Khazars and gave information about the geography of Azerbaijan showed the borders of Azerbaijan differently in their works, they generally put forward similar ideas about the borders of the geography with some minor differences. The Khazars were generally more influential in Azerbaijan, located north of the Aras River. Relations between the Khazar Khaganate and Caucasian Albania developed due to long wars with the Sassanids, who tried to annex Azerbaijan, and then with the Islamic Caliphate and its successors, which put an end to the Sassanids. The Khazars are one of the Turkish tribes who established their own state in the Caucasus and the lands extending from the North of the Caucasus to the Ukrainian steppes in the 7th - 10th centuries, and had the sole say in these geographies for a long time. By subordinating the mostly Turkish communities that were previously under the domination of the Huns and Gokturks in these geographies, they ensured that their names were constantly mentioned in the sources of different societies throughout their long historical journey. After achieving success in the northern parts of the Caucasus, their next goal was to fight against the Sassanids and capture Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, and they were successful in this regard. Since the subject of the study is only related to the geography of Azerbaijan, the events that took place in Azerbaijan during the Khazar Khaganate period are specifically mentioned.
