Evaluation of electronic registration system used by physicians a foundation univercity hospital case

With technological developments in the health care sector, it is essential to store patient records electronically. Electronic medical records are defined as records which belong to a person and consist of his taking health care services throughout his life, health status and all kinds of data on his health and kept in electronic form. In this respect, the importance of electronic medical records is an indisputable fact in terms of patient care, medical and scientific research, health care management, forensic medicine, financial management andpublic health. The aim of this study is to evaluate attitudes of physicians who are the most important health care provider towards electronic medical record system. In this study, usage and perceptions of electronic medical record system 30 physicians working in a foundation university hospital in Ankara were examined. The results of study show that physicians especially use electronic medical record system to review of the patient's problems, access to laboratory test results and make order for radiological examinations. The majority of physicians surveyed believe electronic medical record system increases theefficiency in work. In addition, 70% of physicians is very satisfied with the program design and implementation of electronic medical record system used in their hospital. The study also put forward the advantages and disadvantages of electronic medical record system from the perspective of physicians. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations for the health care managers and firm administrators related to electronic medical record system software are presented. Hospital administrators and firm managers who plan electronic medical record system software shouldn?t see an electronic medical record system just as a passive database, a patient record system that can be created with the data collection forms or registration of medical records to electronic media. They should think that an electronic medical record system is a structure in which medical information of the patient's lifetime is stored.
